Have you ever had to pay for forgotten cloud instances e.g. AWS EC2?

TL;DR
How about a lightweight CLI tool that you could deploy in minutes on your cloud instance, which would then monitor your instance for idling and shut it down automatically when the idling criteria that you defined, are breached?
Cloud services have been around for more than 2 decades now. Shockingly, even in 2024, it's estimated that about 32% of total cloud costs globally are wasted. The primary 2 reasons for waste are over-provisioning of resources and forgetting to turn off resources that are no longer needed.
Why do you think such a huge problem is largely ignored? Keep in mind that in 2023 alone, over $86bn was wasted.

I paid 4 months for a free trial that didn't finish on AWS. I couldn't figure out how to use it. I got 2 months back in the end. it was a awful experience.

By the way, I have had to pay many times myself. I think that AI/ML instances are much more prone to being left unstopped and racking up tons of bills in no time because generally, instances for running AI/ML-related tasks are pretty big.
