How important is dark mode?

A few years ago dark-mode was a design trend, attracting the attention of both users and designers.

Today's dark mode is a must-have feature that your product should include. This transformation is a testament to its widespread adoption and the enhanced user experience it provides, making it a fundamental aspect of modern UI/UX design.

Embracing dark mode not only satisfies user preferences but also provides an aesthetically pleasing and functional dimension to the product's interface!

As any other feature, dark mode is supposed to be a solution to a specific problem.

Typically, for apps that tend to be used in a low light environment (such as Netflix or Youtube), it is necessary and should in fact be the default mode.

Same for apps on which the user can spend a lot of time (e.g VsCode) as dark mode reduces eye strain.

Other than that, I don't think it is necessary. However, as you said, it has become an industry standard, people got used to it, and it is now expected.
