How much of an impact do testimonials and/or reviews make on your decision to buy from a certain business? And does the medium of the testimonial have an impact (ie. You trust video more than say text)?

70% on me trying, remaining can be a combination of testimonials + reviews + social media accounts of the company + medium etc

As an app owner I am very reliant on user testimonials and ratings to amplify our successes and profile in the app stores.
As a consumer I am highly influenced by testimonials. Mostly written on sites like Product Review.com.au, Capterra and Google, but have not relied upon video testimonials very often.

Depends on the product. If I can try it right away I don't really pay too much attention to it.
But if it has a bigger paywall then I start scrutinizing everything. Reviews/testimonials by real people is one of the best way to do that imo, esp. case studies
Hunted Space
Testimonials used to attract me to products but now I check if testimonials are connected to actual profiles of users. That way they appear more trustworthy.
Not much since those can be attained by paying users or offering benefits to make it appear like the product is superb but when I try it may not be so good.

I doubt the credibility of reviews.
Seeing good, thorough testimonials certainly doesn't hurt my decision to buy! It's certainly one of the factors that influence my decision.

I pay close attention to customer/user evaluations such as references, comments about products, evaluation of services received, and even it happens that I turn away from my purchase decision just because of them

A study shows that video testimonials can help your customers gain trust in your product. And I must admit that I trust brands or products that showcase video testimonials on their social media accounts or website.
That's why I developed a video testimonial app to help businesses boost their sales and gain customer trust!
Depends
If it's a free product and there aren't very many, not very much
If it's paid, expensive, and a physical product, then A LOT
It makes a lot of difference. I have tried several products based on testimonials. Video testimonials are far more moving compared to textual ones. And the best testimonial is offline, when you hear about something from friends and family (word of mouth)

It depends on where the testimonial is coming from. I normally check back on the profile of the user to see whether they seem like they'd be authentic users and whether they normally give feedback.
Testimonials do have an effect on me, though the strength of that effect varies a lot. I'm more likely to try something new if people whose opinions I trust have said good things about it. But I might be doubtful and decide not to trust the reviews if I think they aren't honest or are exaggerated. In the end, I think it's best to make decisions based on a lot of different kinds of knowledge, such as your own experience, facts, and the opinions of others.
Recommendations have an effect on me in some ways. How much weight I give to recommendations depends on a number of things, like how knowledgeable the reviewer is, how important the product or service being reviewed is, and how much I know about the topic and how I feel about it. I try to use recommendations as one of many things to think about when making a choice to make sure I'm making the best choice possible.
Thanks for asking this Steven. I think lot of us who are building products from scratch, it will add value. Although I think if you are looking for actual feedback on this question, then this forum might not be the best place because it induces a lot of bias as the users of PH are very different from a regular customer. (Unless your product is targeted to PH users only, then totally make sense)
Earlier, I did, but now not that much.
Because a lot of websites have more testimonials than what they provide.
I go through the content. If it attracts me, I purchase it.
,
But I do want to make clear that it has a place in proving its trustworthiness.
I usually go for text reviews
As a consumer, testimonials and reviews play a significant role in my decision-making process when it comes to buying from a certain business. Reading or watching real experiences from other customers can provide valuable insight into the quality of a product or service. However, the medium of the testimonial doesn't necessarily impact my trust in it. I pay more attention to the content of the testimonial and whether it seems genuine and authentic. Ultimately, the more positive and detailed reviews a business has, the more likely I am to trust and choose them.
