How much customization is too much customization?

I'm creating a native SEO marketing app, and want to give users the option to customize all of the colors in the theme (outside of the progress bar, and color changing buttons). I don't see any other app in my niche that allows for this kind of customization, to the point where most apps don't even have a dark mode (web apps) and the native apps are all just basic windows forms apps.
So how much customization is too much customization, if there is any? Are my competitors just lazy or is there an advantage to not letting users choose how they see your app?

hey there, mate
striking the balance between customization and simplicity is a delicate dance. here are some thoughts:
1. user-centricity: start with understanding your users. are they the kind who'd appreciate deep customization? or do they value simplicity and just want things to work "out of the box"?
2. sensible defaults: before offering a myriad of customizations, ensure your app has strong default settings. most users won't change defaults, so make sure the experience is top-notch from the get-go.
3. avoiding overwhelm: too many choices can lead to decision paralysis. if you do introduce deep customization, consider a guided approach, maybe a setup wizard that introduces options gradually.
4. maintenance and support: with high customization comes a variety of user setups. this can increase the complexity of troubleshooting and support, so be prepared.
5. market differentiation: if no competitor offers customization, you might be onto something unique. yet, it's also worth pondering if there's a reason they don't.
in essence, it's about balancing user empowerment with clarity and ease. customization can be powerful, but it shouldn't come at the cost of a straightforward user experience.
keep iterating and listening to your users. they'll often show you the way.
best of luck with your journey, mate! π±

@shajedulkarim_ hmmm, I think the default looks fine. I think a setup wizard would complicate it too much. Each piece is labeled, and no one should have trouble using it. You can take a look for yourself on the guide I made

I decided that PH Launch day is going to be September 1st, so I am trying to get things looking nice for them.
