Is a 35% open rate bad for a product-based newsletter?

I added a really prominent newsletter subscription option to Replicate Codex ... you can see it right there on the homepage.
I sent our first monthly update 2 days ago and it has a 35% open rate (sent to ~150 recipients).... is this good? That strikes me as kind of bad, especially since I've only gotten 1 reply to the intro email which asks people to tell me about them.
Not sure if this is in fact terrible or maybe good?! Appreciate any guidance you all can give.

It changes every year and totally depends on what you are sending, but 35% is pretty good IMO. 2 days is not enough time to measure, though; monitor it over the coming week along with open times then you will get a general idea of when the optimum time to send for your audience is.

I've never written a newsletter before but 35% sounds very high to me.

@mikeyoung44 Ah that makes sense, guessing yours is opt-in then?
I haven't done anything with newsletters but I've done email campaigns, marketing, etc and I'm usually happy if a rate is over 5% lol so 35% sounds amazing to me.

From the experience of my email list I have and the stats I've seen from other people...
That's a pretty good opening rate!
Mine is always between 25 - 35 % , so keep it up!
