It's an interesting and possibly one of the best routes for startups to take in the beginning.

Here's a Four Point Formula I found:
1) Craft and tell your story masterfully: Don't be dull! Tell your story in such a way that's not only interesting but emotionally connects with your audience. Make them want to invest! I taught myself how to write screenplays, and one of the rules of the genre is show, don't tell. Don't just talk about your product but show your audience using it, even if you have to stage it because it needs more time to be ready. One other thing about screenplays, the movie is made in the editing bay. It may appear like it's not going to work, but the editor's job is to carve King David out of the stone you gave him!
2) Be Transparent About Your Budget: Don't give your audience a reason to think you, Bonnie, and your dog Barkley might skip town with the money instead of handling business. Show your backers you mean business by putting together a detailed budget showing the allocation of funds.
3) Tap Your Networks: Most of your initial growth will come from these places. Ask them to donate and spread the word about you and your product. You want to hit 20 percent of your funding goal as soon as possible. According to Kickstarter, 80 percent of projects that reach this critical benchmark go on to achieve their funding goals.
4) Get The Media in the Mix: I'm not a fan of the media, but you're giving them something positive to talk about in this case. Hit up their social networks! Try and get placed in relevant publications or covered by top bloggers in your industry. It's balls to the wall right now! If you stick this landing, you'll be flying high on momentum with future shares safe and secure in your pocket.
Crowd funding is possibly the best way to start the start up funding for any project.
At the same time, crowdfunding today opens up opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors. Helps those who would like to join an existing business by investing a comfortable amount of funds. Allows an ordinary entrepreneur to attract significant amounts of investment for his project on terms that are more favorable than those offered by banks and other financial institutions.
