Hello everyone, I have been thinking about something lately. I have noticed that the Build In Public community is more focused on Twitter. Additionally, I also noticed that TikTok is a good place to find users, as many physical businesses have flourished after posting their products on TikTok. My question is, is this the time for indie makers to use TikTok for Build In Public as well? Are there any active founders on TikTok (I don't know, as I don't use TikTok at all)? What is your opinion?

I find twitter more useful. Unless you have a product that lends itself to virality well that can be fully demonstrated in under a minute, then tiktok isn't going to be too useful.

@richard_gao2 If I want to share about my #buildinpublic journey, I would definitely go to Twitter. The community on Twitter is very supportive. At the same time, TikTok is really a good marketing tool for virality...

@consistentcat Indeed. But I think some products just don't lend themselves well to virality inherently. For example, I don't think Lockheed Martin is advertising their new jets on tiktok...

I believe it just depends on what you are building. If you are building something teenagers may like or find interesting (video games, social platforms, physical products for them, etc), I believe this is the best option. If you are building SaaS or/and B2B I believe there are better social networks.

@joanduarte This is great insight. I think B2C companies will be more successful if they are promoted on TikTok compared to B2B.

It's great for new business owners because you have an option to showcase your products in a fun way

To add to what others have said, I would recommend it but don't create content there in a timeline format. It can be difficult to view content in a set order without going directly to your Profile. The best Discover #devtok #marketingtok videos tend to to be evergreen. As for active founders on TikTok, try also #vctok There's a lot of career content but definitely founders in there. Hope this helps!
