Is X a good platform for engagement?

I think it’s great for individual accounts, but for brand/product accounts, engagement always feels quite low, especially in relation to the time it takes to create assets and write good thread posts. 🥲
I have 3 questions I would like to ask the community:
1. Should it be just for updates without the expectation of high engagement? Is good impressions enough?
2. Is your product on X? If so, what do you use it for, and what is the engagement like?
3. Where do you find you get the best engagement and are able to reach new audiences?
Look forward to your feedback, and thanks in advance! 🙂
P.S. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to calling it X and not Twitter!

Hey Carol, I used to create X for my last product. And yes, it is hard to get followers and do the engagement. For new audience maybe u should try to collaborate with KOLs in X.

@sylvia_sheng yes that was what we focused on which gave us an audience and boosted our followers so definitely effective if you just want to build up awareness.

Let's start from the end. It is still Twitter for early users not X :)
I have been using it for 12 years now. I can say that it is not that effective for product promotion. Maybe, I think like this because I haven't used it for such purpose but rather for communication with local community in my country.
Recently, we have created a Twitter account for our product and followed some software industry-related accounts including the Product Hunt account itself. We have been tweeting with hashtags and link to our product pages, replying to impactful posts, but it is still hard to attract followers for such product representing a niche area.
By the way, this is our products Twitter page https://twitter.com/servicesharknet
@xaqan yes agreed! I think I’ll just forever refer to it as Twitter… Feels awkward to say X (especially out loud 😂)
It really is so hard to build followers and I just found myself thinking “Surely I could be doing more impactful things than this?”
But a lot of people who like SaaS products are the platform so I feel compelled to have a presence on there!
I also have the same feeling. Having a hard time getting people to follow the profile I made for Touring.
@gabriele_mazzola reaching the first 1K followers is always the hardest and I spent soo much time engaging with people. The turning point for us was “influencer” / KOL marketing. Just getting us in front of large audiences helped a lot.
Once we hit 1K the account seemed to gain followers on its own but engagement is always pretty low.
Good for building followers and I guess awareness but we really didn’t see much ROI for the amount of time and effort we put in. 🤷🏻♀️
I feel your frustration so bad! Was on Twitter for months to promote my product and build a community around it, at the end I felt just that nobody really engaged with any of my content.
And worst thing, I got those Twitter Growth Hackers convincing me to go for their program (which never worked either)
Ended up leaving it …
But now I am back and I will use Twitter just for its add tool and to reach to potential users, instead of caring too much about vanity metrics.
Mind sharing your profile link? Will follow and support you right there 🤝
@jonathantahiry Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
We worked hard to grow the audience and spent a lot of time and effort engaging with people and focusing on “influencer” / KOL marketing which helped us, but I kept thinking “is this the best use of my time?”
I think like you are doing it’s more effective as one-way comms tool rather than a platform for building engagement.
Here is our Twitter 🙂

@jonathantahiry thank you for the follow! As I mentioned even though the follower count is ok, engagement is so low.
Do you think it’s better to have less followers who are highly engaged or more followers who do not engage at all?
X can be a valuable component of a comprehensive digital marketing strategy. By understanding its strengths, staying adaptable, and creating engaging content, businesses can tap into X's potential to reach and engage their target audience effectively.
