Lessons learned from 100 cold connections on LinkedIn

I set a goal this week to connect with 100 new hires on LinkedIn and ask them to check out https://readmefirst.co. This was my first time doing a cold outreach campaign like this, so I wanted to share my results and learnings with you all:
- Out of 100 connection requests, 30 accepted
- Out of 30 connections, 5 responded with feedback or thanks, and 3 signed up on https://readmefirst.co!
- Out of 3 conversions, 0 created READMEs after signing up 😢
I learned 2 things from this campaign that I found pretty valuable:
1) I need to add a guided onboarding process. I love that README leaves you with a blank page, because the possibilities are endless, but users seem to be intimidated and end up not starting at all. I've tried to start this by better describing the personas on our homepage
2) People love the idea of the product, as was mentioned in multiple connection responses, but many of those still didn't convert. Probably a mix of a polite shove off or a save-for-later kind of thing. More features isn't always the answer, but in this case a couple impactful features that show users the power of their README I think could be pretty beneficial.
If you're interested, we're also building in public so you can check out our page analytics at https://plausible.io/readmefirst.co to see how many visitors came from LinkedIn this week.
We're still trying to go from 0->100 READMEs, so it's a very manual process. What successes have you all had from cold outreach and connecting with new communities?

A well-written profile might yield 40% to 50% acceptance rate.
But your result of 3 signups out of 30 connections is a very solid.
