    I was having this discussion with some friends and it got quite interesting. What is your take? Let us know Some of the upsides we found on free tiers: - Lower bar to use product - You can upsell people instead of using the trial - Might help getting more familiar with the product, leading to word-of-mouth - It's kind? Downsides: - No direct revenue - You have the cost

    With a free tier, you can start gathering the early adopters around the product, grow your mailing list and your community. So that way, you're building the foundations for your further marketing activities. Having a community, will allow you to gather feedback, write first case studies or even get first reviews on G2. I am from the CRM/Client Portal sphere, where free trials doesn't bring much value to the potential customer. They can't actually get the value from the product during a free trial. When you search for such software, a free trial only allows you to see the product and the back office, click around, and that's all. You can't battle-test it. But with products such as Woodpecker or Dripify, free trial makes a lot of sense, as you can actually use the product for the given 7-14 days.

    @qbagaj That is actually quite an interesting take. Depending on the service, it might be more useful to have a free tier because you should be able to test it for a longer period of time (without all the extra paid features)

    @bjarnbronsveld Yes. Especially if this is a tool that is gonna be used with clients. Nobody will onboard a client to a tool that they will lose access to in just a few days :-)
