Reddit says PH is a bot farm?

I have been considering using PH for a while, always talking myself out of it due to a lack of understanding I suppose. I joined the r/ProductHunters/ it seems to be all self-promotion and the chatter on other r/ suggest that PH has limited value other than an influx in search, and most of the comments/feedback are bots. What's it actually like here?
