It was August 2000 when "The Joel Test" became viral in the software and computer industries. Joel Spolsky, its author, is none other than the founder of Fog Creek Software, a company credited with the creation of products such as Trello and Glitch, among others, and he is also the co-founder and former CEO of Stack Overflow. In his Test, Joel proposed 12 steps for better software development. 12 steps that were taken as benchmarks in best practices and that, to this day, are still relevant.
It is in June 2023 that we, Manfred, launch a humble version, which we call "The David Test". In it we talk about the 12 steps to a better corporate culture. Our years of experience in the talent industry have given us a close look at the inner workings of countless companies of all sizes, sectors and nationalities. This has allowed us to learn what characterizes those that successfully attract and retain talented employees, and those that, on the contrary, fail to do so.
We hope this guide will help both. That it will become a support for those who, as employees, want to reflect on their current work and what they may miss (or not), and for those who have decision-making power and want to evaluate and improve the culture of their projects.
