When hiring a junior product designer for our companies/startups, we typically look for a few key things. First and foremost, we value a strong foundation in design principles and a solid understanding of user experience. We also appreciate a portfolio that showcases creativity, problem-solving skills, and a passion for creating impactful designs.

A couple of things you should make sure, they are good at or understand - Design Process: this would be critical for you in the early Phases to make sure they include user research, understanding the problem, and exploring solutions. - Define MVP And iterations: A lot of designers can build super nice solutions, However, that could not be always possible at the beginning due to resources or all concepts are not validated. - Good Eye for Design: You should see his UI Design work, attention to details and how he solve challenging screen designs. - Attitude and communication: This is a key soft skill for every designer, As they will have to let go of some ideas based on the user feedback or when they need to present an idea and discuss the right balance between. (User value, Business potential and Technology limitation) Best of Luck!
