When did you say "alright this is the right time to launch on Product Hunt" ?

Good question Amine.
Aas I can talk on per my experience, I launched on PH twice in my life.
The first time I had no audience, no presence online π Result: 70 upvotes, no top 5 rankings.
The second time, I had almost 2.5k followers on Twitter, and I was part of a private community of indie hackers (very supportive) π Result: 300+ upvotes, 5th ranking.
So, for me, the answer is: when you feel like you have a supportive community around you.

@luca_restagno that's right! Build an audience and then launch so you won't find yourself alone in the desert.
This is my usual take on PH launch.
As some one who built multiple products got into Top#5 Products of the day multiple times, below is my take.
For Newsletters, Info products - Launch as early as possible so that you can relaunch again after 6months.
For SaaS - Wait until your product get the traction.
You should launch on PH for the traffic and the little bit of traction it gives. But note that not everyone gets the same traffic. Only the products that stay in Top#5 of the day will get a good amount of traffic. Also, ProductHunt emails 100K subscribers about the Top#5 products daily. That will give you some additional traffic.
But donβt consider a successful PH launch as validation for you. There are hundreds of products from previous years that got died. But this should give you a few connections and pointers to start with. Consider writing a launch report and tell users how your launch went and give some data about stats/figures on traffic/revenue. Post this report to multiple places like IndieHackers, Reddit, etc. This way, you can get some extra coverage for your launch.

I feel like Product Hunt is where you go to get exposure and fast user feedback. Post when you feel like you have something substantial enough that you could actually use feedback to make meaningful changes to your product.
Movydick: And The Oscar Goes To...
@naomichao there is that too. Feedback is what makes a product better. You need some good preparation for that also so you can get the most feedback possible in your launch day.
Gamma
@amineaouraghone well, today is our launch day lol! it's definitely exciting to see the feedback roll in
Movydick: And The Oscar Goes To...
@naomichao oh that's interesting π what is it about?
@naomichao Can't agree more with that! That was the exact reason we come to PH! Wishing all the best with your launch!
Gamma
@amineaouraghone The product is called Gamma (https://www.producthunt.com/post...) - basically doing to google slides what Notion did to google docs :)

There is no hard and fast rule for this. Once you have built a strong community, you are good to go. The only thing is proper preparation and a strong community.

@qudsia_ali it's also very important to have a strategy for the post-launch at least for the following two weeks because I can see so many people getting a lot of traffic on the launch day and also a little bit the day after but then the numbers go down dangerously.
Movydick: And The Oscar Goes To...
@qudsia_ali @imtiyaz922 nowadays building an audience/community is so important. If you don't have a community ready to support you it would be tough to get something from your product hunt launch.

I haven't
Right now I've launched 3 different amazing products that did poorly π
I watched and did alot of research on audience building so right now I have a goal of engaging with at least 3 persons in the community every day for the next 3 months
Movydick: And The Oscar Goes To...
@edun_kerry engagement is how you're going to build awareness and get people interested about you and what you're up to. By community you mean Product Hunt discussions? or also others? Like Indie Hackers, Twitter, Reddit...

I think the right time to launch a product is when you've established a community of friends and supporters over here that can help push your products to the eyes of potential customers

I feel like im just within reach. Our app, up until today, was only functional through a Discord bot. We just added a feature where it can be used directly through the browser. Now we'll be opening up user signups without requiring a Discord account. I think after we do that we'll be launching within 4-8 weeks after, let some outside (of discord) users sign up and use the app and get feedback, fix any bugs or issues and make nay needed improvements. Then we'll be ready and I'l be doing a 2-4 week preparation.

After dev beta > fixes > user beta > fixes > launch > fixes > and now PH!

@rehan_choudhry1 but how do you plan to get the most out of your profuct hunt launch?
@amineaouraghone We're balancing between prepping to drive awareness for the launch while also inspiring meaningful feedback from the community.
We've been live in the App Store and on Google Play for the last month, we've worked through a big round of bugs and user feedback. Now I really want to get the product/developer/engineer/creator minds in this community on the platform to give us as much additional feedback as we can. That's really where we want to get the most out of it.
After that, we've got three weeks of bug fixes until we turn on our broader GTM efforts and "go live."
The marketing efforts are to test out some GTM tactics while trying to get enough eyes on us so we can drive community usage referenced above.
It should be noted that I'm a non-technical founder, launching a death-memorialization platform. Most of the time I honestly feel like I'm stumbling around in the dark, so I am incredibly grateful for this community's help.

It was about a month ago when I launched my first Notion Template.
I knew I had to double down on PH & the best way to go about was by launching my first e-product on PH itself.

Product Hunt makes us feel that it is a good place to get fast user feedback. Posting when you need feedback and making familiar the community with your product from different backgrounds and perspectives could be beneficial for development.

@parilti_erkan i agree but to get the most out of your product hunt launch you should make sure to be ready and prepare for it, right? What did you do to prepare?
We found that once our churn bottomed out and we had product market fit, we tried floating our product on product hunt.

@alex_vidon_ai did you build an audience before? Like with Twitter, Reddit or a newsletter?
@amineaouraghone We spent a lot of time contributing to communities, but not too much of an audience.
Movydick: And The Oscar Goes To...
@alex_vidon_ai contributing to communities is also a very good step. That's how it should be done ;-) what sort of communities?
