I'm excited about all the software updates that are announced by Apple. Some of them are long overdue (like the iPad calculator app and customization of app layout on iPhone).
The most exciting announcement of this year's WWDC is the advent of "Apple Intelligence" or AI for short :). It's gonna leverage the powerful SoCs of Mac, iPad and iPhones for on-device AI capabilities. Here are some of the things it's capable of:
- Context-driven notifications: Apple Intelligence can recognize which notifications are important to your personal context.
- Writing improvements: Apple Intelligence will introduce a systemwide tool for proofreading and style improvements (with almost all the features of Grammarly) which works across third-party and native apps.
- Image generation: Apple Intelligence can create generative photos with a prompt that you give or based on your photo library. There are three styles: Sketch, Illustration and Animation. You can also generate CUSTOM EMOJIS!! And it works similarly to their Image generation tool. Finally, you can highlight a rough sketch (with an apple pencil) on your notes app and turn that into an Image easily.
- Cross-application tasking: Apple Intelligence can delve into your apps and execute tasks on your behalf. One of the examples Federighi gave was asking Apple Intelligence to pull up files sent by a contact during a certain period.
- Focus on personal context: Apple Intelligence can draw upon the full suite of your activity but also on what is on your screen. For example, you can ask it whether a shifted meeting will cause you to be late to a personal commitment, Federighi said.
Siri: It's wayyyyyyyyyyy better.
Private Cloud Compute: Apple Intelligence will leverage cloud-based models on special servers using Apple Silicon to ensure that user data is private and secure. If a request needs to go to a cloud server, Apple says it will only send a limited selection of data in a “cryptographically” secure way.
Are you excited by the announcements shared at WWDC 24?

Custom emojis? Time to express my feelings with even more accuracy… or confusion.

Does watching the YouTube recap count?
Absolutely, the updates announced by Apple are exciting! The introduction of "Apple Intelligence" sounds like a game-changer, especially with its context-driven notifications, writing improvements, and image generation capabilities. It's fascinating to see how on-device AI will enhance user experience across the Apple ecosystem.
The ability of Apple Intelligence to handle cross-application tasks and focus on personal context is particularly intriguing. It’s like having a strategic assistant that understands and optimizes your workflow seamlessly.
The feature for generating custom emojis and effortlessly transforming sketches into images is brilliant. It's clear that Apple is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with AI.
As someone deeply involved in strategic sound design, I'm always excited to see advancements that enhance user interaction and experience. These updates will undoubtedly offer new ways to integrate and leverage sound within the Apple ecosystem.
I'm 50/50 on this update. The design they delivered felt subpar this time, as if Apple didn't invest much effort in delivering its vision.
It seems they just went with "Hey, let's let our users customize their iPhones," which, let's be honest, will make iPhones' UI look terrible.
On the tech side, it was pretty exciting to see Apple Intelligence integrated across apps to provide relevant insights.
@mordehaus I actually think this is a great update cause it’s where they added a lot of features that users were requesting for AGES! Formatted texts and Scheduled Sends in iMessage, more options for msg reactions, integrations with RCS, T9 dialing in phone app, apple’s take on Google’s Material You customization theming (even if it’s ugly, it’s still something for customization), lock and hide apps, better Siri (for real this time), smart mail and notification categorization, safari reader mode, game mode in iOS, and better notes app.
Yeah the AI features will be the talk but the a lot of little improvements which users have been requesting for is gonna increase the quality of life by a lot.
