    Echo chamber as a service

SocialAI is a private social network where users create an exclusive network with millions of AI followers responding to their every post. (Think of it as having your own virtual fanbase, but everyone's a bot.) I’m curious: Can interacting with AI followers really fulfill our social cravings? The novelty might wear off quickly, and let's face it — isn't the chaos of real human interactions what makes social media engaging? Plus, if it's all AI, are we just feeding our own echo chambers without any real connection?

OpenAI just released its first model with human-like reasoning abilities

OpenAI just unveiled o1, kicking off a new series of "reasoning" models designed to tackle complex questions faster than we can. They've also launched o1-mini, a smaller and more budget-friendly version. And yes, if you've been following AI buzz, this is the much-hyped Strawberry model everyone's been talking about.

This release is a big step toward OpenAI's goal of human-like artificial intelligence. Simply put, o1 outperforms previous models in writing code and solving tricky problems. But here's the catch: it's pricier and a bit slower than GPT-4o, so OpenAI is calling it a "preview" to highlight that it's still in the early days.

What's really interesting is how o1 was trained. Instead of just mimicking patterns from data, it uses reinforcement learning—learning through rewards and penalties—to figure things out on its own. It thinks in a "chain of thought," much like we do when solving problems step by step. OpenAI says it's more accurate and hallucinates less, though it's not perfect yet. This also makes for some great memes

The standout feature? o1 tackles complex tasks like coding and math while explaining its reasoning. Ideally, this should make it more accurate. While I was playing around with the model this morning, I did notice a lot fewer hallucinations. It's a promising leap forward in AI, even if it's still ironing out some wrinkles and comes with a heftier price tag.

Get a better understanding of your health by analyzing your blood

I’m all for staying on top of my health, but let’s be real—tracking steps and sleep can only get you so far. Blood biomarkers are the gold standard for health insights, but they’ve been seriously underused—until now.

If you’re wondering what I mean by biomarkers, let me explain: Blood biomarkers are essentially different medical signs that can be tested to see if a person has a disease or is at risk of developing one. When you get your yearly checkup, doctors usually look for biomarkers when testing your blood.

Carrot Care is a new app that’s designed to be your personal guide through the complex world of bloodwork. Let’s say you get your blood test results back from your last checkup. You can upload them to Carrot Care, and from there, the app will break them down into digestible, easy-to-understand explanations. It will also offer personalized advice on when it might be time to consult a doctor or change your health habits, such as eating habits.

So, if counting steps isn’t enough and you want to get real insights into biomarkers that can make a lasting impact on your health, maybe try Carrot Care. You could unlock better performance and maybe some extra years.

Replit's new tool lets you build apps with just a prompt

It’s no secret that AI is starting to play a pivotal role in the lives of developers. In the past few months alone, we’ve seen products that automate parts of the terminal, squash bugs, and handle pesky PR tasks.

Replit, the billion-dollar IDE startup, has launched a new tool that makes going from idea to finished app as easy as typing a prompt. Replit Agent isn’t just another run-of-the-mill coding copilot — it’s more like a junior software intern who can understand your goal and help bring it to life. It can understand natural language prompts and help create applications from scratch, making software development more accessible to users of all skill levels.

This isn’t anything particularly new on the surface. Do you remember Devin? The difference here is that Replit Agent can reason through a task and create its own steps to complete it — such as writing code, setting up environments, and managing deployments, rather than just taking a prompt and responding in code.

According to Replit CEO Amjad Masad, this isn’t about replacing developers but rather enabling developers of all skill levels to be more creative, saying, "We've crossed a threshold. This isn't about AI replacing developers. It's about supercharging human creativity and making software creation accessible to everyone.”

Make money by selling your side projects with this open-source platform

Over the past year, the tech landscape for developers has been anything but stable. Layoffs have become a familiar story, and AI tools are getting better at tasks traditionally done by developers. In the midst of this uncertainty, more developers are looking for ways to stay independent and keep creating and shipping projects on their own terms.

This is where Polar comes in. It’s an open-source monetization platform designed for developers who want to offer their work directly to their audience—whether through crowdfunding, memberships, digital products, or SaaS. Polar has spent over a year in development, and today, the team is launching Polar v1.0, offering a simple, developer-friendly alternative to other monetization platforms like Lemon Squeezy.

What makes Polar stand out? For one, it’s built with developers in mind. From handling the hard stuff like billing, sales tax, and EU VAT to offering features like file downloads, license keys, and even Discord invites—it takes care of the infrastructure so developers can focus on building. The platform also integrates with APIs, Webhooks, OAuth, and SDKs, making it highly customizable.

For developers navigating an uncertain industry, tools like Polar offer a way to keep shipping their work independently. It’s trusted by thousands of developers and is now an official GitHub funding option, showing there’s still a way forward for those looking to stay in control of their projects.

reMarkable's newest tablet comes with a color screen and enhanced writing tools

In a world where companies pack more features into devices, reMarkable takes the opposite approach. The company’s tablet has become a hit for its simplicity, and e-ink display that mimics the feel of writing on paper. The company's philosophy is to eliminate distractions like social media and games, focusing on helping users be productive in a more natural way.

The Norwegian company has built a reputation on this minimalist approach, thriving without venture capital by perfecting a few core features. Now, reMarkable is making waves with its latest release, the reMarkable Paper Pro.

The Paper Pro is reMarkable's first tablet to feature a color E-Ink display, along with an adjustable front light for better visibility in different lighting conditions. It retains the company’s signature writing experience, promising an even more paper-like feel.

The tablet starts at $579 and includes an 11.8-inch color display, a marker with extra tips, and some other accessories. One of the most notable updates is to its writing abilities. It comes with an optional typing case that hooks onto the back and lets you type as if you would on a laptop with things like copy-paste, writing in the margins, etc.

The new tablet and naming philosophy seems to come on the back of some pretty stiff competition with Amazon launching the Scribe, a $340 option of the same vein that comes with access to the Kindle Store.

Here are five tools that are built to make life a little bit more fun

My morning routine goes something like this: every day, Monday through to Friday, I wake up, brew myself a cup of coffee, sit down, and browse the Product Hunt leaderboards. I check out every product launching that day with the hopes of finding something interesting to write about.

A lot of what I cover are tools that exist for a certain task, whether it’s an AI copilot, a new social app, or a five-foot humanoid robot. However, one genre I haven’t paid enough attention to is products for fun. After all, what is building without the joy that comes with it? In this vein, here are five tools that exist to make life that little bit more fun:

Sacred OS is a Windows 9x-inspired operating system written in Vanilla JS where every HTML file is executable. It exists to provide a dose of nostalgia as you go about your day.

Everyone Draw is an iOS, Android, and web app that lets you connect with over 285,000 other artists worldwide and draw alongside them, one pixel at a time, kind of like r/place.

The Valley Planner will help you keep track of everything you have to do in Stardew Valley and provide important information that you'll need for your daily farming.

The InstantPhoto app allows you to pin your precious memories on your desktop like Polaroid stickers, so no matter how busy your day might be, you can quickly glance at some of your favorite memories.

Demure Check uses AI to analyze your LinkedIn profile and judge your demureness. It’s based on the popular ‘very demure’ meme that's taking over the internet right now.

Backed by Open AI, this robot is set to arrive in homes this year

The race to launch the first humanoid robot is quickly becoming one of 2024’s most defining tech stories. Throughout the year, we’ve seen a number of demos from Tesla, Boston Scientific, and more showcasing humanoid robots designed to complete tasks both in professional and home environments.

The latest robot friend to grab the internet’s attention is the Neo Beta. It’s built by 1x Technologies, a company backed by Open AI and most recently raised a whopping $100 million in funding. It’s designed from the ground up as the company’s first foray into home robotics after a decade of building for factories.

It’s designed for general purposes, such as tasks around the home like cleaning, moving furniture, carrying objects, and even pouring a beverage. All of these tasks are performed autonomously using a built-in AI system. It stands at about the height of an average human, can lift double its weight (66 pounds, by the way), and can run up to speeds of 7.5 miles per hour.

Understandably, one of the big questions about AI-powered humanoid robots is safety. The last thing humanity needs is a human-robot war akin to Terminator or, on a lesser scale, a robot giving you attitude. To this effect, the Neo bot has been specially designed to avoid posing a threat. It’s considerably lighter and softer than other competitors. It’s clad in a jumpsuit-like material instead of metal or hard plastic and has cushions where human muscles would be.

1x plans to start deploying Neo bots in a few select homes this year, with a big focus on research and development before the company begins to open the technology to the general public. My only question is, when are we going to get a Wall-E-style robot?

Listen to the sounds of the natural world with this Spotify for nature app.

Do you ever feel like you need a break? No matter how much you love what you do, it can wear you down over time. Whether you’re working for your dream company or building your own future unicorn, there are moments when you need to step out and breathe. It’s totally normal.

When I feel this way, I like to turn to nature. Something about getting away from the hustle and bustle and returning to nature resets everything. It’s not always possible though and more than often I feel myself wishing I could bring nature to me. Thankfully, there’s an app for that.

Enter Earth FM. It’s kind of like Spotify but for nature. It originally launched as a web app a few years ago where you could zoom around the globe discovering diverse sounds in different countries. Now the team are back with a dedicated mobile app.

With the new app you can listen to over nine hundred different natural soundscapes from around the world. Want crashing waves to fall asleep? Sure. Want to feel inspired by the sounds of the rainforest? You got it. Alongside that, you can learn about the different ecosystems that make up each soundscape by zomming around the interactive map.

What’s even better is it’s business model. Earth FM is a non-profit organization that funnels money into the protection of our natural world so that those who come after us can enjoy it long into the future.

This startup raised $40 million to help you make your design ideas come to life

As AI continues to influence the creative world, design is becoming more accessible and versatile. Playground is a new app that takes this trend further, offering a space where anyone can create—from logos and t-shirts to social media posts and memes—with the help of AI.

Developed by Suhail Doshi, founder of product analytics tool Mixpanel and Mighty, a super fast browser, Playground aims to simplify the design process without sacrificing creativity.

The app is powered by Playground v3, a beta foundation model that enhances prompt understanding, artistic text generation, and photorealistic output. The goal isn’t to replace designers but to give them a tool that makes the design process more intuitive and flexible.

Once you sign up, you can quickly get started with one of the pre-built templates, or if you’re a seasoned designer, you can drop in your own assets. From there, the AI, Playground v3, helps generate text and images based on your input, which you can then easily customize through the app’s interface.

It’s got some pretty big backers, too, having secured $40 million in funding from Paul Graham and Garry Tan, the YC president, among a bunch of others.

Playground doesn’t intend to replace designers. Rather, it aims to leverage AI to help designers and non-designers quickly move from idea to finished product. So, if you’ve been wracking your brain trying to get a design done, maybe give AI a shot.

Turn every design into a working React component with this extension

Ever spent hours manually copying design elements from websites, wishing there was a faster way? It’s a common struggle for designers and developers who just want to get the job done without all the tedious effort. The process of sifting through HTML, replicating styles, and tweaking them to fit your needs can turn a simple task into a drawn-out process that stifles creativity.

That’s where HTML to React comes in. This browser extension is designed to make your workflow more efficient by allowing you to take HTML elements from any website and instantly convert them into React components. It’s not just about copying—it’s about capturing inspiration and seamlessly integrating it into your project. You can even export these components to Figma, making it easier to bridge the gap between design and development.

Using it is straightforward: enable the extension, select the part of the page you want, and you’ll get React code ready to use in your project. If you need to customize the component, the Magic Patterns editor offers simple tools for refining the elements to suit your exact needs.

Browser extensions that make designer and developer’s lives easier are becoming a popular niche category on Product Hunt. Just yesterday, I covered Button Stealer, an extension that lets you steal buttons from around the web and store them in a dedicated profile for inspiration.

So, if you’re looking for a tool that turns web browsing into a treasure hunt for design ideas—or just want to simplify your process—HTML to React might be what you need. After all, who says inspiration has to be hard to capture?

See a button you like it? Steal it with this Chrome extension

People have a knack for collecting odd things—anything from banana stickers to celebrity hair. But here’s a new one: collecting buttons. Not the kind that keeps your shirt closed, but the ones you click on websites.

Enter Button Stealer, a quirky Chrome extension that lets UI designers (and anyone with a soft spot for digital oddities) gather a trove of online buttons. Created by Hamburg-based designer Anatoly Zenkov, this tool is as simple as it is strange. Visit a website, and it automatically saves a button to your collection. And yes, these buttons are live links that’ll whisk you back to their original sites with a single click.

Zenkov calls his creation “fun, useless, and free!” While it might not revolutionize your design workflow, it’s oddly satisfying—kind of like curating your own gallery of UI inspiration. You can even prune your collection, keeping the buttons that spark joy and ditching the rest.

This isn’t Zenkov’s first foray into the weird and wonderful when it comes to building. Seven years ago, he launched IOGraph, an application that turns mouse movements into contemporary art. The idea is that you have the program running in the background while doing your usual daily stuff at the compute, and when you finish up, you get a stunning art piece.

So, if you’re looking for a fresh if slightly eccentric, way to gather design ideas—or just want to indulge in a new kind of collecting—Button Stealer might be just what you need. After all, who says stamps are the only thing worth collecting?

Go back in time with this AI-less feature from Halide Camera

As AI and image processing continues to redefine photography, it's becoming harder to tell when a photo is truly a photo—or something else entirely. Companies like Google, Samsung, and Apple are pushing tools that tweak, merge, and alter your images with ease. But with these powerful features, one question arises: Is the final image still a photo or something entirely new?

Halide, the beloved iPhone camera app, is challenging this trend with its new “Process Zero” feature. This update removes all AI and heavy processing from the photo equation, offering a return to basics. Instead of automated enhancements, Process Zero delivers raw, natural output—similar to what you'd get from a camera from decades ago.

Halide has always offered control over how images are processed, whether using the standard iPhone processor or Apple’s ProRAW. Process Zero takes this a step further by capturing a simple 12-megapixel image as a RAW DNG file without any post-capture processing. This means faster captures, perfect for fast-moving subjects.

Lux Optics, creators of Halide, likens this to shooting on film: you might get color quirks or grain, but the trade-off is a more organic, untouched image. Their comparisons highlight how much processing typically happens—sometimes improving clarity but also losing natural texture. Whether you prefer a fully-processed or raw image is a matter of taste.

Halide isn’t rejecting AI; it’s offering photographers more choice. With Process Zero, you start with the most natural version of the scene, free of digital manipulation, and can decide later how you want to edit it.

Midjourney moves away from Discord and launches its own web platform

Want to experiment with Midjourney but don’t want to sign up for Discord? You’re in luck—Midjourney now lets you create up to 25 images for free (on a temporary free trial), all without needing to sign up for Discord. The announcement came from CEO David Holz (yes, on Discord), but now you can use the tool directly through a dedicated web app.

Previously, using Midjourney meant navigating its Discord server and learning a specific prompt format, which worked well for dedicated users but felt like a hassle for many. Now, you can just head to Midjourney’s site, sign up, and start creating.

The website was originally only available to those who had already made 10,000 images via Discord—quite the milestone—but it’s now open to everyone. You still need to register, but you can use your Google account if that’s easier for you.

Once you’re signed in, you can browse images in the ‘Explore’ section for ideas, and when you’re ready to create, simply enter your prompt in the ‘Create’ tab. The AI will generate four images based on what you’ve entered, and if you want to tweak them, you can use the “Strong” or “Subtle” options to adjust the output.

After your 25 free images, you’ll need to subscribe if you want to keep creating, and plans start at $10 per month for the basic tier.

Who doesn’t love some friendly startup competition?

Yesterday’s leaderboard was peak Product Hunt. Throughout the day, three great AI-based products were all vying for the top place spot: Helicone AI, Kraftful 3.0, and Hexus AI.

Helicone AI was eventually crowned the winner, but in my eyes, all three would have been worthy winners, in part because of the quality of the product but also for the unique ways they activated their audiences. For example, Helicone and Kraftul each completed workouts for each vote gained and even handed out cookies in San Francisco, giving a new meaning to ‘do things that don’t scale.’

Helicone AI is an LLM observability platform for monitoring, debugging, and improving your AI apps. Helicone is an open-source observability platform that provides a 1-line integration to access cost tracking, agent tracing, prompt management, and more.

Eighteen months after its original launch, Kraftful is back with its latest update. Kraftful 3.0 makes it easier to build products through user feedback. You can use AI to interview your users in a human-like conversation, generate product roadmaps, turn feedback into insightful product stories, and more.

Hexus AI is a platform built to help product-led teams drive engagement and conversion. With the power of AI, you can easily spin up interactive product demos, videos, step-by-step guides, and more in minutes. No need to context switch between a bunch of different apps.

All in all, some friendly competition can bring out the best in us. It’s important to remember to have fun with your launch and try out new ways to engage your audience in a fun and authentic way.

This AI-powered code-editor is built by Zed in collaboration with Anthropic

AI and developer tools go hand in hand. Since ChatGPT burst onto the scene a few years ago, seasoned developers and hobby developers alike have been using LLMs (large language models) to fix bugs, explain functions, and even build entire apps.

Alongside that, new AI tools like ShellMate and Ellipsis have sprung up with the goal of making a developer's life easier, and already popular tools have begun to adopt the technology to improve their product offerings. One of them is Zed, the popular Rust-based, multiplayer code editor built by the creators of Atom and Treesitter.

Over the past two years, the Zed team has quietly experimented with LLMs to build a fast, reliable text editor that ships with the tools devs need right out of the box. That work caught the eye of Anthropic, spurring a conversation that quickly became collaboration.

The result is Zed AI, a hosted service developed in tandem with Anthropic that gives developers the ability to use AI right inside their code editor.

So what can it do? Zed AI enhances coding productivity with two core features: the Assistant Panel and Inline Transformations. The Assistant Panel provides a text-based interface where developers can issue commands to interact with AI models, pulling context from files, codebases, or terminal outputs to generate code or get help on demand.

Inline Transformations take this a step further by allowing you to modify your code in real time using natural language prompts, making it easier to iterate quickly without ever leaving your editor.

Throughout all of that you can swap out the model you interact with for whatever one you prefer. Zed currently works with Claude, Gemini, GPT, Llama, and has plans to expand further.
