@ian_williams4 snipping tool and good old print screen on the keyboard do the job for basic screenshots. As far as editing though, you can't do much better than GIMP for free photo and image editing. I literally created all of the static visual elements you see on my website and in my videos using GIMP.
It's a tool I've been using for more than 20 years at this point, and it offers 90+% of the functionality of Photoshop with 0% of the price.
I use Shottr on my Mac (https://shottr.cc/) and nothing beats it
- Editor with a lot of features (e.g. blurring on text)
- Scrolling screenshots
- Screenshot backgrounds
I use this now instead of the Mac default by changing up the hotkeys
