I do not see a shortcut to start and stop recording, or am I missing something?

Hunters and makers, it's good to be back! 😻 Today marks our biggest release yet, and it's packed with new features including plugins, trimming and Touch Bar support. We've been lucky to have such an incredible community of contributors, testers and supporters follow us through the design and development process. It's made Kap better for everyone, and we hope you enjoy it! Any and all questions and feedback are welcome, we'd also love to hear how we can make Kap even better for you.

Been using Kap since the initial release, and I'm super happy with 2.0. Cannot suggest Kap highly enough, especially if you need to capture GIFs frequently.

Pros:

Easy GIF Capture, Highly Configurable

Cons:

Moderately large download

Jon Øvrebø Dubielzyk

Been using Kap since the start and after having gone through 10+ GIF recording tools and this is the only one that's been giving me satisfactory results. It doesn't give you full control over color algorithms and rendering results etc, but I suspect most people won't want that.

Pros:

Best GIF and screen recorder, simple to use, lives in the menu bar

Cons:

May be too simple for some

Taylor Palmer

I hated how clunky most other GIF recorders were. With some products, the GIFs generated are hard to find. With Kap, they're always named "Kapture", so I just search for the most recent "Kapture" to post on whatever I'm working on.

Pros:

Best GIF recorder I've found. Nice interface, works with retina and external displays (many don't). The newest version adds trimming!

Cons:

None

J.D. Lindsay

Was fine to make a video, but hung up my computer at one point (had to restart) as it was throwing lots of exceptions. Also had trouble exporting to mp4 on multiple occasions

Pros:

Nice UI

Cons:

Lots of crashes

That's no good! We recently released an update that should fix both issues, if you'd like to give it another try you can download it here: https://github.com/wulkano/kap/r...

It would be great if Kap allows to choose area of screencast using mouse cursor

Pros:

Plain, Simple, Fast and Open source

Cons:

Hard to select area to take screencast

Christopher Skillicorn
You can! I hope this helps: https://github.com/wulkano/kap/i...

Such a shame. v1 had a great feature where the dropdown control panel could be torn off and positioned out of the way on a second monitor if you fancied it. For some reason this feature has been removed from v2. Thankfully v1.x can still be downloaded from the releases page so I'm back with it. Aside from that, Kap is an excellent product.

Been using Kap since the v1 launch here on PH ~1 year ago. Not many apps get to stay on my macbook that long 👏
The all new Kap is such a beautiful and powerful product. 👏

I've been using Kap as the absolute screen recorder for quite a good time now, and with this new feature of selecting the screen things got even better

Pros:

Feature rich, fast, beatiful

Cons:

Quite heavy app size

So glad to have found this! Still not sure if the GIFs are much more optimized than Giphy Capture, but the experience is quite seamless.

It’s lovely to see how the 2nd version of the app evolved. The new export options are great and very useful and the review sequence is a nice addon as well. I use it on a regular basis each day for short screen recordings and love the product. Thanks for building it!

Pros:

Amazing new version with so many useful features that serve exactly the needs I have when using such a screenrecording app.

Cons:

There’s not much editing possible right now but that’s also not something I regularly miss.

I have been using the Kap beta for about 3-5 months now and absolutely love it. Super easy to use and it produces wonderful gifs. I love the trimming functionality -- I no longer have to worry about making the beginning and ends of my gifs make sense, I can just trim them away :) If you need to make gifs, this thing is great.

Great app.

Pros:

Very thin

Cons:

No cons for the moment

I want to trim a video file (mp4) created using kap. I am using quicktime but I can not save the trimmed file! Any suggestions?

Some installation instructions. Confirmed my MacBook Pro met tech requirements, downloaded and installed product... but it does not work. No troubleshooting guidelines anywhere, nothing. Useless.
