I will be completely honest, the screenrun is a promising SaaS, but it has bugs on Firefox. Additionally, I can't record sound on Windows when using it and haven't been able to do anything with it so far. I hope they fix their Windows app or integrate their project with something powerful like OBS, which is open-source. If they just create a script with OBS for recording guides, it would be amazing and save them time from building a custom app. I also want to mention that your testers should keep Firefox in mind before releasing updates. The last version hardly works with Firefox at all.
This is fair. I only test on Chrome these days because it's the only browser supporting the emerging Web Codecs, which are used in ScreenRun to produce high-quality MP4 videos. In Firefox, ScreenRun has to use the older MediaRecorder class, which isn't as good. But I'll check what is the issue with ScreenRun on Firefox. Regarding the Windows native app, it only supports recording your screen without audio, but it does add the clicks you did while recording, so when you import the MP4 in ScreenRun web, your zooming points are automatically added to the timeline for you. The native macOS app records both screen and audio, and of course your clicks. That's because I know macOS more than Windows. Soon, we'll be able to remove these native apps: I proposed a new W3C standard to capturing screens on the web, which would include the possibility for web developers to also request mouse events. That way ScreenRun will be able to offer a screen recorder with clicks.
I have been using ScreenRun since launch, and it has really improved my communications with clients. I can now make sure that the points I am trying to get across are highlighted in such a way that they cannot be missed. I have had some positive feedback from clients saying that the instructions I provided were so much clearer than a static annotated screen grab.
The developer is continually improving the app and has added lots of new and improved features since launch!
My favourite product launch of 2023.
Great product. I use it to create short video tutorials. This service has great potential and a very responsive developer. If you need to make a beautiful video quickly, this is your choice!
Thanks Jay! Let us know if you have ideas and comments, we're always on the lookout to improve it. We launched a new macOS companion app and new automatic zoom out and speed controls this week.
Thank you! We added a free Windows app (we already have a free macOS app) that saves your clicks in the MP4 so when you import inside ScreenRun your zooming points are automatically created. Please let me if that helps.
