I'm not sure this is a dichotomy... If a product has no real utility how can it be a commercial success?
I suppose you can have super useful products that are not a commercial success... but I can't see how you can have a commercially successful product that is not useful.
Note that useful here doesn't necessarily mean creates a net positive impact in the world though - if we take useful to...

When I have done landing page tests I mainly placed ads targeting keyword search. The reason being wanting to test it with people in market rather than with a specific audience.
In general, when choosing the platform to place ads to drive traffic, I'd primarily consider what am i really testing: for example if I'm testing would the proposition resonate with a specific persona/audience vs...

Killing a product line that had been a substantially part of the development focus of the company. We had to rationalise resources and the investment still required to go to market was still substantial. My biggest learning in that case is to think GTM from day one and ensuring that you can see a return on investment as fast as possible

Making decisions based on poor or incomplete data... that is the reality of product management - as much as you want to be data driven you will ALWAYS have to make a decision where you go: "I wish i knew more about X" ... the craft is to understand when that piece of information is critical versus when it is of minor impact

Listen (or observe) one customer / user at least once per week.
Do not try to gate keep your team - facilitate them to learn / listen to feedback from all sources.
Do not become a single point of contact or bottleneck
Do not become the NO person when working with stakeholders - often their ideas are rooted in deep knowledge... work with your stakeholders to flesh their ideas and connect...
