What's a weekend? For reals though, it's actually liberating to not have set schedules, bosses, or customers to worry about, at the expense of not having anyone but myself to blame if the code I wrote is bad and can only attributed to my own lack of due diligence or incompetence. After working in a customer-facing, highly technical, underpaid and literally thankless job out of idealism only to find that on the ground level the job actually makes it impossible for me to make a difference on a large scale because most of the public who understands what you do don't get to vote and half of those are spending their time writing complaints to the bar association because I didn't have magical powers, it's really nice to be responsible for things you have direct control over and not any more or less than that. Also, as an aside, now you know why "bar complaints" don't usually result in anything, because no matter how many you write, 90% of them are clients complaining about their public defenders not being able to abracadabra them out of jail after they tanked their own case by talking before their lawyer showed up.

@rednevada Congrats, but I'm easily the last person who have any use for your platform, both because of my entire lack of need to hire or apply for work, and also, my deep misgivings about the state of privacy in the jurisdiction your company is in, in particular the fact that the government system seems to lack any substantive checks and balances upon the leader of the party or coalition in power on both a practical and constitutional level - anything passed by the House of Commons is constitutional. Having read your privacy policy in addition to Bagehot and having some of my closest friends caught in the cost-of-living crisis in Scotland mostly but the country broadly, it creates so much uncertainty because words are just words but laws are backed by enforcement. I have the same misgivings about the American regulatory framework generally, but as a US person I am at least somewhat assured by the fact that regulatory agencies change tack at regular intervals. The fact that your privacy policy outlines things in a comprehensive way that is undergirded by the fact that there's no authority to rule any of it unenforceable makes me really really uncomfortable. I know it's not your fault and as an individual you can only do so much, but if that isn't enough to signal that perhaps you should contact your MP, whichever party they belong to, to tell them the concerns of at least one person who paid a lot of attention to government and governance in not just your country but anywhere that may give me some jurisdictional arbitrage if needed, well, perhaps it's a "don't put the cart before the horse" type of situation. Also, as an actual Nevadan (I wasn't born in Nevada, but at this point effectively everyone related to me by DNA in the US is here and have been here for decades), why Nevada in the name? Sure, we have data centers and fairly cheap access to low latency colocation, but not even the casinos seem to know that. What is with the name if you're in Oldham? If weren't for the fact that I played countless (easily 20k+ hours in my lifetime) of Football Manager I wouldn't know of the place existing. I'm not angry, just miffed.

Ah, the eternal weekend dilemma! Well, I'm definitely leaning towards having a break, but my to-do list might have some other plans. It's like a never-ending battle between relaxation and responsibility.
