Should I launch my product?

I've never launched a product before and have always just been an upvoter of products here and there. But when I researched how to have a successful launch, everyone said I needed some initial community to help grow momentum. Do you think this is true? I don't have an active following of many people who use product hunt. I recently created a pretty cool tool and would love to share it, but I'm not sure if PH is worth the effort if it's not going to get anywhere (or if I should wait to launch here).
